Founder, CEO @ Nest Health | Physician Executive, Mom, Advocate who is working to change the world.

It was a pleasure and honor to attend Every Mother Counts' Annual MPower Luncheon hosted by my dear friend and Nest Health supporter Christy Turlington-Burns as we kick off Mother's Day Weekend. Since our earliest days, Nest Health has been a part of a sisterhood of organizations alongside Every Mother Counts, an organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for everyone, everywhere. Mother's Day can be a beautiful celebration and challenging at the same time. Sending love to all mothers and to those who have lost children, who have lost their mothers as I have, who are going through the difficult journey of becoming a mother, who are unable to become mothers, and those who choose to support other Mothers. #NestCares #MothersDay

At Nest Health, we understand that the well-being of our providers impacts the well-being of the families we serve. This week during our New Orleans team's weekly clinical meeting focused on trauma-informed care, Nest's Mental Health Specialist, Patrice Hammond, reviewed self-care tips for providers caring for trauma patients. Trauma-informed care acknowledges that many patients have experienced trauma – whether from abuse, violence, or other social drivers – and that this trauma can deeply impact a family's physical and mental health. Trauma-informed care also emphasizes the importance of provider well-being in delivering this care. When providers feel healthy, engaged, and supported, they can more effectively meet the complex needs of families who have experienced trauma. In honor of #NationalNursesWeek and #MentalHealthMonth, we're sharing these tips with providers out there prioritizing trauma-informed care.

Our healthcare system separates physical & mental health, but at Nest we know the two are deeply linked. Providing comprehensive healthcare means taking care of whole people, including their mental health. That's why it's a crucial piece of the care we provide families. Our care team can provide screenings, diagnoses, treatment, and therapy for each member of the family for things like anxiety, post-partum depression, depression, and more. Because #MentalHealthisHealth. #MentalHealthMonth

April is #NationalMinorityHealthMonth and this week is #BlackMaternalHealthWeek, a crucial time to confront the persistent disparities faced by marginalized communities in accessing quality healthcare. 🪺 At Nest Health, advancing health equity is our purpose. We exist to improve health outcomes of families who disproportionately face barriers to the medical, behavioral, and social supports that help them thrive. Our country's statistics are abysmal and we're all tired of seeing the lack of meaningful improvement. As a health organization, we have a critical role in advancing health equity — and we take it seriously. Here's where our work begins... ❇︎ We've started where the greatest barriers exist — in the state of Louisiana, ranking near last or last on maternal and infant mortality markers in the country. ❇︎ We're bringing care directly to families, addressing social driver barriers plus things like a lack of transportation, childcare, or time off work. ❇︎ We're committed to radical accessibility for all families, providing a level of access that all people deserve. ❇︎ We're putting our money where our mouth is and taking financial risk via value-based contracts to improve health outcomes and measure our impact across race and ethnicity. ❇︎ We're centered in the communities we serve. Our clinical teams are local and share lived experience with the families we're caring for. We're also incredibly grateful for Bernadette Vincent, our VP & Founding General Manager of our Nest New Orleans, for her leadership. It's a start we're proud of AND we acknowledge there is much more work to be done. The entire team at Nest Health remains committed to advancing health equity. #NationalMinorityHealthMonth #HealthEquity #LifeintheNest
